OCCUPATION: Pastor at Dunn’s Corners Community Church, Presbyterian.

RESIDENCE:  Westerly.

BORN, RAISED & GREW UP IN: Hanford, Calif., a small agricultural town in central California.

RIGHT NOW I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF: Preparing to go with a team of 36 people from six churches in our community to do hurricane recovery work in Houston, Texas, from April 14-21.

I ENJOY SPENDING MY TIME: Reading, running and walking on the beach, playing piano, traveling.

MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Raising our four children to have love and respect for others, to be committed to working for equality in the world, and for the incredible blessing of being a family.

I’D LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR: Having time to listen to people.

TOP ON MY BUCKET LIST: Now that we live on the East Coast, I want to take a road trip back to California and see all the wonders of our great country.

ALWAYS IN MY POCKET: Some cash.

WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP:   A cowboy.

PERSON WHO HAS INFLUENCED ME THE MOST: My youth pastor, Mark Nazarian. Almost 40 years ago he encouraged me to become a pastor. He retires this September and he has touched countless lives. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

FAVORITE AUTHOR:  John Steinbeck.

BOOKS ON MY NIGHT STAND:  “Les Miserables,” a biography of Leonardo da Vinci, the Bible.       

I AM LISTENING TO: E Street Radio.

FAVORITE MOVIE: “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

FAVORITE TV SHOW: “Modern Family.”

FAVORITE SONG: “Backstreets,” by Bruce Springsteen, and “Savior of the World” (a hymn set to the tune of “Danny Boy”).

FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD: Steak and potatoes.

SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES I USE MOSTLY: Facebook.

TRAIT I MOST ADMIRE: Integrity and humor.

PET PEEVE: I’m pretty relaxed about most things.

FAVORITE QUOTATION: My dad had a saying he loved, and I get a big smile whenever I think of it. “Tis better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT OUR LITTLE CORNER OF THE WORLD: The people, so friendly and so fun.

CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: Popcorn.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT ME: Someday I hope to hike the Appalachian Trail.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED: Be grateful.

ADVICE I BEST LIKE TO GIVE:  Trust God.

IF I RULED THE WORLD I WOULD: Give everyone a month off to enjoy time with family and friends.

IF I WON THE LOTTERY, THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS: Give everyone enough money to enjoy a month with family and friends!

I DRIVE A:  2010 Gray Honda CRV

I WISH I DROVE A:  I like my car.

ALWAYS IN MY FRIDGE: Strawberry jelly (for my peanut butter sandwich).

IF I COULD INVITE ONE SPECIAL PERSON TO JOIN ME FOR DINNER AND CONVERSATION, I WOULD INVITE:  John Steinbeck. “East of Eden” is the book that created a spark in me and I would love to talk with him about the book, and especially Samuel Hamilton, a character in the story whose wit and wisdom have brought me great joy.
