In the Easy Chair with Simon Dewar

AGE: 47.

OCCUPATION:  Innkeeper/general manager at Weekapaug Inn.

RESIDENCE: Westerly.

BORN, RAISED & GREW UP IN: Bedfordshire, England.

RIGHT NOW I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF: Getting ready for a busy summer season at the inn and helping my wife, Aimee, who has just opened Charlotte Julienne Food & Home in Watch Hill.

I ENJOY SPENDING MY TIME: Being taught baseball by my son and cooking Victoria Sponge cakes with my daughter.

MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: My two beautiful children who are becoming global citizens and little foodies.

I’D LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR: Leadership, both in and out of the army, and good humor.

TOP ON MY BUCKET LIST: I’d love to take a culinary tour of Seattle.

ALWAYS IN MY POCKET: Hotel keys, a pocket knife and my phone.

WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP: A soldier with the British Army.

PERSON WHO HAS INFLUENCED ME THE MOST: My mom. As a single mother her work ethic was unparalleled. She also instilled in me a love of home-cooked meals and a strong sense of financial responsibility.

FAVORITE AUTHOR: British novelist Sebastian Faulks.

BOOKS ON MY NIGHT STAND: “The Great Halifax Explosion,” and “Hero of the Empire.”  I love reading historical nonfiction.

I AM LISTENING TO: “Setting the Table,” by Danny Meyer.

FAVORITE MOVIE: “A Bridge Too Far.” I love any old war movie.

FAVORITE TV SHOW: “The Crown” (we watch a lot of British telly in our house).

FAVORITE SONG: Robbie Williams’ “Let Me Entertain You.”

FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD: A typical Sunday roast … chicken, root vegetables and Yorkshire pudding with gravy.

SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES I USE MOSTLY: Linked In, Instagram and Facebook.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED: Always own up to your mistakes.

ADVICE I BEST LIKE TO GIVE: Manners cost nothing.

IF I RULED THE WORLD I WOULD: Enforce environmental care. In other parts of the world recycling is taken much more seriously.  I’d like to see that grow in importance here.

IF I WON THE LOTTERY, THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS: Hand build a brick pizza oven in my backyard … I’m not greedy … just looking for a little win!

I WISH I DROVE A:  A vintage Land Rover Defender.

IF I COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY WITH A GROUP OF PEOPLE FROM THE PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE, I WOULD INVITE: Margaret Thatcher. The fact that she was the first female prime minister as well as a formidable leader coming from humble beginnings fascinates me.
