In the Easy Chair with Jen Carr

AGE: 36.

OCCUPATION: Development assistant and wearer of many hats for Opening Doors for Westerly’s Children.

RESIDENCE: Richmond.

BORN, RAISED & GREW UP IN: Guildhall, Vt.

RIGHT NOW I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF: Planning and organizing book parties with the Westerly elementary schools, gearing up for the 2018 Books on the Beach fundraiser and grant writing. All of this is done while also being a stay-at-home mom to a 3- year-old and 1-year-old.

I ENJOY SPENDING MY TIME: With my husband, Alex, our friends and family or lounging in a comfy spot with one of the books I’ve been waiting to read.

MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: I know every mom says it but my greatest accomplishments are our two little girls, Katherine and Liliana. Your children really change your life for the better and show you that your heart can grow more than you knew possible.

I’D LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR: For being a great friend, daughter, sister, cousin, wife and most especially an amazing mother.

TOP ON MY BUCKET LIST: Travel to many different countries with no worries and plenty of downtime for some great books.

ALWAYS IN MY POCKET: Cellphone. It’s the easiest way to answer emails quickly and keep up with the needs of social media while working from home.

WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP: An astronaut.

PERSON WHO HAS INFLUENCED ME THE MOST: Really it’s two people; my parents, Muriel Martin and the late Richard Martin.

FAVORITE AUTHOR: I don’t really do favorites, more like flavors depending on my mood. My main genre is fantasy. I like to be taken away to another world.

BOOKS ON MY NIGHTSTAND: Just finished “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeyman and am starting Philip Pullman’ “The Book of Dust.” Next in line is “Neverwhere” by Neil Gaiman and eventually “Circe” by Madeline Miller.

I AM LISTENING TO: Music for the girls that includes a lot of classical. They’re learning about orchestras.

LAST MOVIE WATCHED: “ “Wonder Woman”!

FAVORITE TV SHOWS: No real favorites but there are some great shows on there like “Mozart in the Jungle,” and “The Crown.”

FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD: Chocolate anything!

SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES I USE MOSTLY: Instagram is the only way to go!

TRAIT I MOST ADMIRE: Patience.

PET PEEVE: Not being patient!

FAVORITE QUOTATION: “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” — Theodore Roosevelt

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT OUR LITTLE CORNER OF THE WORLD: The changing seasons

CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: Something to keep me warm as I'm cold most of the time.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT ME: I grew up on a small dairy farm and was a 4-Her showing cows at the local fair.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED: My father told me once when I was getting ready to do a presentation that the best way to present is to know your key points and just talk. This works well when you know your topic very well and doesn’t work well when you don’t. So if you are going to present, know what you are talking about and just go for it!

ADVICE I BEST LIKE TO GIVE:  Always be yourself.

IF I RULED THE WORLD I WOULD: Hand it over to someone else. That’s too much responsibility.

IF I WON THE LOTTERY, THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS: Call my mom!

I DRIVE A: White 2012 Ford Flex.

I WISH I DROVE A:  Tesla anything.

ALWAYS IN MY FRIDGE: Monroe Dairy milk.

IF I COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY WITH A GROUP OF PEOPLE FROM THE PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE, I WOULD INVITE: My father and grandparents, who are no longer with us ... to listen to their life stories and ask a million questions.
