Mystic’s Tyler Reed joins U.S. Navy brass quintet

Musician 3rd Class Tyler Reed of Mystic, left, has found a way to match his music education and service to country in fine style. Reed, who studied music performance and pedagogy at Keene State College (where he received a bachelor’s degree) also has a master’s degree from the University of Akron, and a doctor of musical arts degree from Texas Tech University, is a member of the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band Harbor Brass, the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet Band’s brass quintet.

Reed, pictured above with Musician 1st Class Eddie Hernandez, center, and Musician 1st Class Rebecca Jenkins, said his favorite part of the job is “performing and honoring those who served and currently serve through my work with the Navy bands.”

The musicians were performing during a U.S. Pacific Fleet Band Brass Quintet concert for band students at Juneau-Douglas High School.
