Greetings dear friends and gentle readers and welcome back for a mid-August visit here on the Front Porch, where we’re listening to the crickets chirp and the cicadas buzz on this Victory Day.
Gorgeous Maria Gabriele Allen of Bella Vita Salon can add another feather to her already stylish cap — stylist to the stars! When Katie Couric was in town for a recent wedding, Maria worked her magic on Couric. She was a true sweetheart, Maria said, friendly, personable and kind — just like our Maria!
Speaking of weddings, it was pure Westerly love that surrounded newlyweds Cara Servidio and Eric Piccolo during their Aug. 4 wedding celebration. Eric, son of Mary and Patrick Piccolo, and Cara, one of the three daughters of Chris and Lisa (Liguori) Servidio, were toasted and fêted by a large, loving circle of family and friends. Lovely Cara, granddaughter of Jeanne (Miss Jeanne of dancing fame) and Charles Liguori (of art world fame) who has danced throughout the years with both her grandmom and mom (who’s also an extraordinary dance instructor), danced right into the arms of her new husband while sisters Jamie and Leslie, and lifelong friend Lexi Castagna — and the rest of the wedding party, Cara’s cousins Lia, Michael and Mark Gabrielle, Eric’s sister Jenna, and Eric’s friends Vinny Federico, Greg Amaral, and Nico Alviani — looked on. Said mom, Lisa, “We had a great day with some pretty amazing people.”
A Teddy Bear’s on the way to Trumbull, Conn., to the home of Harrison Henry Horn, son of Kaitlin (Sammagio) and Heath Horn, who arrived on Aug. 6. Kaitlin, a Westerly native and much-loved colleague is the daughter of Cindy Johnson and Michael Sammagio, both of Westerly. Welcome HHH.
More happy news and a little mea culpa to members of the extended family of the late, great Sallie Coy, the longtime Westerly Library director. In a story last week about the library’s new Sallie Coy Café, I mixed up the Lathrop family geneology, placing the late Helen Coy Lathrop (mother of Betsy Baldwin, Sallie Klemm, Arthur Lathrop, John Lathrop, and our Sun colleague Maggie Anderson) in the wrong generation. May the following good news about Helen’s grandson Tom Anderson (Maggie and her husband David’s youngest son) be a healing salve! Tom, a WHS grad, proposed to his longtime sweetheart Taylor Reid (they met when they were both students at Johnson & Wales University in Providence) recently on the beach in front of the Pleasant View Inn, where he worked for 7 years (working his way up from busboy to manager), while beachgoers and family members looked on. When Taylor (daughter of Deb and Chuck Reid of Manchester, Conn.) said “Yes!” much cheering and clapping erupted from the happy observers. This means another wedding for the Anderson family. Dave and Maggie’s oldest son, Tom, plans to marry his fianceé, Colleen Vecoli, next year. Speaking of the Coy-Lathrop-Andersons, what fun to meet Ali Lathrop at long last. Ali and her husband Dan (son of John and Cathy Lathrop) have two darling sons, Matthew and Sam.
