NEWPORT — Island Moving Company, Newport’s contemporary ballet company, will open its 36th season at Rosecliff this weekend with two shows, “A Collection of Attitudes” and “Mother Goose.”
“A Collection of Attitudes” will feature the debut of a world premiere created specifically for Newport audiences by nationally renowned choreographer Kevin Jenkins. Jenkins comes to Newport from Boston following engagements with State Street Ballet, St. Louis Ballet, and Columbia Ballet Collaborative among others. He brings accolades from Dance Magazine which praised his work as “riveting.” Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3.
Newport’s annual favorite “Mother Goose” returns for its sixth year at the mansion. The ballet is a lively retelling of the familiar nursery rhymes using movement and live music. Audience members will be led by Mother Goose herself through the spectacular rooms of Rosecliff for an interactive and entertaining performance event for children as young as three. Island Moving Company dancers will perform vignettes of Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, Little Miss Muffet and more. The company will be joined by minstrel accompanist Alicia Ruggiero, with Newport actress and educator Lisa Reimer directing the action and reciting the familiar rhymes as Mother Goose. Performances will be held on Friday, March 2 at 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 3 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 4 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
