WESTERLY — Farmers market coupons will be available next week for low-income seniors in the Westerly area.
Seniors may be eligible for one booklet of three $5 certificates if they are 60 or older and meet income guidelines. Certificates may be used at any Rhode Island farmers market stand which accepts them to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables only.
There is a farmer’s market on Main Street on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Westbay Community Action will also be bringing farmers market produce to the senior center in late summer that may also be purchased with the certificates.
To receive the coupons, see Mealsite Manager Edie Jacobson. You must appear in person and sign for yourself to receive the coupons.
The Knights of Columbus Narragansett Council No. 21 will hold a benefit bingo at Foxwoods on Friday, Aug. 17. Doors open at 4 p.m., and games start at 6:30 p.m. For tickets, contact Joe Quaratella, George Routhier or Mike DeSantis.
Check out the wonderful work that Westerly has done on the senior center landscaping. With the cutting back of trees, shrubs, and overgrown gardens, the grounds look so clean and neat and new plants have been set along the the front and sides of the building. In addition, the center maintenance supervisor has repainted and re-lettered the center’s welcome sign. Stop by and check it out.
