Westerly Senior Center: Current and upcoming center activities and meetings

WESTERLY — On Friday, Aug. 3, a representative from RIPTA will be at the senior center from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to process RIPTA ID passes for seniors 65 and older, and disabled or handicapped individuals under the age of 65.

In the over-65 category, low-income seniors and those with disabilities may purchase a “No Fare” two-year pass, which will allow them to ride the RIPTA and Flex buses at no additional cost. Other seniors over the age of 65 and disabled individuals under 65 may purchase two-year passes that allow them to ride the RIPTA and Flex buses for half-fare during non-peak hours.

There are forms for low-income individuals, seniors 65 and older, and disabled individuals under the age of 65 that may be filled out the day of the clinic, or may be picked up in advance at the center office.

Applebee’s at 224 Post Road will hold a “Dining To Donate” event for the Senior Center on Thursday, Aug. 23, from 4 to 9 p.m. Present one of the flyers included in the August newsletter and Applebee’s will donate 15 percent of your check to the Center. Tax and tip are excluded from the calculation. You may use the flyer when dining in or at Carside to Go. Flyers may not be distributed in the restaurant or parking lot.

The Center Book Discussion Group will meet on Monday, Aug. 6, at 1:30 p.m. in the shuffleboard room to discuss “My Antonia,” by Willa Cather. Contact Charlotte Korean for more information. If the weather is poor, the group will meet on Aug. 13 instead.

The Red Hat Chicks will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at noon at the Cooked Goose on Watch Hill Road. Bring a hearty appetite and some stories of summer adventures. Call Queen Mum Nancy Milligan if you plan or do not plan to attend.
