ARMCHAIR TRAVELING

Take a cultural journey to Italy Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Westerly Public Library when the Dante Society of Westerly presents a program called “Italy: A Cultural Journey,” a slide show, talk and discussion by Ashley Turney of L’Esperta. FLOWER POWER 

Watch as three floral designers go head to head in the Floral Design Challenge Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Westerly Yacht Club. The designers will each be given the same container and plant material and will go to town to create the best design in town to raise money to update the signage and plantings at the children’s garden in Rotary Park. The contest is sponsored by the Gardeners of Westerly. Refreshments, cash bar and lots of fun. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Purchase tickets from Catherine Moore at 401-348-8926.

MY LITTLE RUNAWAY 

Lace up your sneakers and and run in the annual Bottone Mile, which, after 24 years on the WHS track, is moving to a measured road mile in Misquamicut. The running race is free, and an awards ceremony will take place following the race for all the summer fun run participants. Registration is required but free. BROADWAY ON THE LAWN

Be part of the “in” crowd Friday night when the Bob Hardwick Sound takes over the South Lawn of Ocean House for the annual “Broadway on the Lawn, a 150 Year Celebration,” the much-anticipated summer performance of Broadway classics on Friday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $150 per person (which includes beer and wine). Meet fellow book-lovers at Point Judith Saturday morning and head to Block Island when Savoy Bookshop & Cafe guides you on a day-long field trip to Block Island to visit bookish friends at Island Bound Bookstore and enjoy dining at the Spring House, a guided island tour and a reception at the bookstore. Tickets are $90.
