WESTERLY — With the arrival of September, many activities will be resuming at the senior center. Here is an overview of what’s coming up.
INSIGHT, the support group for the visually impaired and legally blind, will meet at the senior center this Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the conference room. This group helps those with impaired vision to deal with the everyday.
Square dance lessons offered by Surfside 8 will begin on Monday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. New students of any age are always welcome.
The Westerly Hospital exercise group will be starting a new set of classes on Monday, Sept. 10. To register for the six-week course, contact the physical rehab department at 401-348-3346 and ask for Chris Smith. The cost for the course is $30.
Floor shuffleboard and table shuffleboard will be resuming this month. The floor shuffleboard group will hold its organizational meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11, and play will start on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 1:15 p.m. At the organizational meeting, teams will be chosen, rules reviewed and a chairman chosen.
The summer table shuffleboard league will be holding its banquet on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at noon, at Hilltop Café on Canal Street. The organizational meeting for the fall table shuffleboard league will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 1:15 p.m., where teams will be chosen, rules reviewed, and captains chosen. Play will start on Sept. 25. For either league, sign up on the sheets posted on the bulletin board outside the center office. For table shuffleboard, indicate play on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The Red Hat Chicks will be meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at noon at the Cooked Goose on Watch Hill Road. Contact Nancy Milligan if you plan to attend.
The Dream Quilters group will be resuming meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 9 a.m.
A new course music course, organized by Gerry Trottier and Nancy Zabel, will be starting this month on Fridays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. This tutorial is intended for people who always wanted to sing or play a musical instrument but have not started. No prior experience is preferred. Free music is available. A $1 per session donation is suggested at each session to defer costs.
