WESTERLY — The Pastoral Care Commission of Christ Church Westerly will hold the third program in a series Thursday afternoon at the parish hall called “How to Care for the Caregivers.”
A three-member panel, with Alzheimer’s expert Robert Elmer, senior advocate Wayne Zitcak and social worker Karen Hansonwith will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
Elmer is the president of Care for Caregivers LLC, a company that he started in 2013 after serving as a licensed assisted-living administrator for 15 years in the Westerly community. He is now a master trainer of Alzheimer’s care and an experienced lecturer. He has written the book “Join the Journey: Care for the Alzheimer’s Caregiver,” which he will have available at the program.
Zitcak, an AARP Volunteer from Providence who has extensive knowledge of senior advocacy legislation, especially in the area of the Care Act 2018 and the Livable Home Grant.
Hanson, who has worked for 25 years as a licensed independent clinical social worker in private practice with individuals, couples, and families, has worked for the past 9 years as a Hope Hospice of Rhode Island volunteer, learning companioning, caregiver respite, and bereavement support skills.
“How to Care for the Caregivers,” open to all caregivers, and those who care, will take place Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Christ Church Parish Hall. There will be refreshments and a chance to talk with the speakers.
