If you plan to run for the board of directors at the senior center, applications are available at the director’s office. They are due back in his office on Thursday, April 12, by 4:30 p.m. The election, if necessary, will be held on Thursday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In order to run for the board of directors, a center member must have been a member in good standing for at least one year (not honorary or associate) and have paid his or her dues by Jan.15 (#542 or lower). Board members are expected to attend one meeting a month and to take part in committees.

Don’t forget that the center’s Chowder and Fritter Dinner will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. George Routhier will be preparing Rhode Island, New England, and Manhattan chowder with clam fritters. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children in advance and $15 for adults and $7 for children at the door.

AARP continues to prepare taxes for Westerly area residents. However, this Wednesday and next Wednesday, there will be no tax preparation. There will be tax preparers on both Fridays.

Save the date of Thursday, April 12, from 5 to 11 p.m. to attend the 99 Restaurant & Pub’s “Dining to Donate” fundraiser for the Westerly Senior Center. Flyers have been included in the March newsletter and are available at the center. If you present the flyer to your server on the day of the fundraiser, the restaurant will donate 15 percent of your bill before taxes and tip to the center. You may not use gift cards or coupons.

The Book Discussion group will meet on Monday in the shuffleboard room at 1:30 p.m. to discuss “Night Over Water” by Ken Follett. If you have any questions, please contact leader Charlotte Korean. If the weather is poor, the group will meet on March 12. New members are always welcome.

A representative from Project Outreach of Westerly, sponsored by the VFW and DAV, will offer assistance on Tuesday, March 13, at 11 a.m. He will offer assistance with VA disability claims and health benefits.

For those individuals whose primary language is Italian, Joe Mazza comes to the center to assist with paperwork and answer questions about social services, such as filing for disability, Italian pensions, and other concerns. If you wish to have him come to the center, call 401-942-7770 so that he can set a date to offer services.

The Knights of Columbus breakfast will be held on next Sunday from 7 to 11 a.m. The menu varies from month to month. Tickets are $7 for adults.

The March Insight meeting will be held at the center this Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room. This meeting is for the legally blind and visually impaired and their caretakers.
