STONINGTON — Core Plus Federal Credit Union will soon occupy the former Cream & Cone ice cream shop at 38 South Broad Street across from the Pawcatuck Shopping Center.
The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the request for a change of use from ice cream shop to financial institution Tuesday.
Building owners Christos and Reveka Tsiakiris, of Westerly, purchased the property on Sept. 4, 2002.
No changes to the site or building are proposed and minimal interior renovations are requested, according to the Planning and Zoning Commission report.
All of the restaurant equipment was sold during an online auction that took place from July 31 to Aug. 5, according to Sara Adams of Adams Auctioneers/Appraisers, of Norwich.
The two existing apartments attached to the business portion of the building will remain.
The parking lot was expanded in 2016 for the ice cream shop, according to Keith Brynes, town planner.
Brynes also said he thought the credit union would create less traffic than the ice cream shop.
