WARWICK (AP) — Rhode Island police have made an arrest in connection with a cat that was found outside with its fur frozen to the inside of a cardboard box.
The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said a Warwick woman, Donna Vessella, was arrested Tuesday and charged with abandonment of an infirm animal and unnecessary cruelty.
The cat was found Feb. 8 near a trash bin outside a Warwick apartment building. An animal hospital had to shave pounds of matted fur off the cat, and it is being treated for an eye infection and other medical problems.
The RISPCA had offered a $500 reward for information and said it had received many messages. It is unclear if anyone has received the reward.
