RICHMOND — The Washington County Fair and Rockwell Amusements have announced that a fundraising partnership raised $26,000 for the Hasbro Children’s Hospital at this year’s fair, which concluded on Aug. 19. Rockwell, based in Johnston, solicited $2 donations for merry-go-round rides, and the fair and Rockwell each matched the first $2,500 of those donations.
Roxanne Nelson, co-chairman of the fair, said the fair committee had unanimously approved the partnership, which was suggested by Harold Fera, owner of Rockwell Amusements. Twenty-five fair vendors also participated, raising nearly $9,900 in donations, with the Hope Valley Fire Department winning a friendly competition by taking in $2,465 at its booth. Another $600 was contributed by the winners of the tug-of-war contest.
Nelson thanked all those who contributed, saying, “Almost everyone in our community knows someone who has been treated at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital, so we are proud to have supported and served our community this year through our fundraising efforts.”
