Do you have bank accounts, stocks and dividends, wages, refunds, safe deposit boxes, or other unclaimed funds which you have forgotten about and for which you are eligible?

You will get the opportunity to check for these funds on Thursday, Sept. 5, when a representative from the Rhode Island Treasurer’s office is at the senior center. Volunteers of the FFC will also be available to offer a presentation on free one-on-one coaching about improving credit, building a budget, and managing debt. These services are free and are open to seniors even if they are not members of the senior center.

Summer shuffleboard players are reminded that the shuffleboard omelet banquet is Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the senior center. The champion and runner-up team will be announced, as well as the hanger champion.

March Glaude from Royal Travelers will be offering a presentation of upcoming trips for 2014 on Tuesday at 11 a.m. If you plan to pay for any of the Royal Travelers trips by credit card, this will be the opportunity.

INSIGHT, the support group for the legally blind and visually impaired, will be meeting in the center craft room on Wednesday at 11a.m. Seniors with vision problems and their caretakers are invited to attend.

The Westerly Hospital and the Southern New England Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation will be starting a new six-week arthritis exercise group on Thursday at 10:45 a.m. at the senior center. This program is specifically designed for people with arthritis because it is a gentle exercise program led by trained instructors. It offers an opportunity to meet people and have fun while doing something good for yourself and your body. The exercise program can give you more energy and help you maintain joint range of motion, muscle strength, balance and coordination, and posture and body mechanics. You may register for the class by calling the Rehabilitation Department at the hospital by calling 596-3593 or from Connecticut, (800) 933-5960, Ext. 3346.

Next Monday at 9 a.m., the center van will be headed to Crystal Mall. Westerly area seniors are eligible to use this service. To make a reservation, call Edie Jacobson at the center Mealsite at 596-7216.

The Red Hat Chicks will be returning the senior center on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m. to enjoy a pot luck luncheon. Please call Rose-Andree Meeker to confirm your attendance. New wearers of the purple and red are also welcome.

The senior center book discussion group will be meeting on Monday, Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m. This month’s book is “The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency” by Alexander McCall Smith, the first of one of my favorite series. New members are always welcome to join the group.

Planning ahead for several special events that will be taking place at the senior center, tickets are currently on sale for the center member picnic (Sept. 21), the chicken Parmesan dinner (Oct. 5), and the Card Party and Mini Bingo (Oct. 12).

For reservations, call Edie at (401) 596-7216. Recommended donation is $3. Please make reservations on Thursdays for the next week.
