STONINGTON — Howl with the Howling Hound Dogs Saturday at the St. Mary Church Bazaar, Tag Sale, Silent Auction and Bake Sale.
The Hounds, an upbeat roots band featuring Peter Magrane, Tom McVerry and Lou Manzi, play classic jug band and swing tunes from the ’20s and ’30s along with blues and funny original songs with guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, kazoo, washboard, jug and even the spoons.
“Where else are you going to hear a solo on the spoons?” asked Manzi, noting that the three musicians enjoy playing upbeat, happy shows, have entertained audiences from kids to seniors, and have played at festivals, senior facilities, libraries and town events, and have appeared on TV and radio programs. “Our goal is to always leave people smiling and happier than they were were when we got there,” Manzi said., noting that the Hounds like to “engage audiences with sing-a-longs, trivia questions, jokes and by letting people play the percussion instruments we bring along.”
The bazaar runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the trio will be entertaining fans from 9 to 11 a.m. Visit howlinghounddogs.com or contact Manzi at 860-235-6719, firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
