Last year, according to “The Picture of Children’s Health Rhode Island,” a non-profit organization, conducted the “largest per capita and most synergistic celebration of children’s health, this country has ever seen,” according to Joy Feldman, the organization’s founder. “Let’s keep the momentum going in 2014 and have the smallest state in the country provide the biggest impact on children’s health in the country. And then, let’s take this celebration to the nation.” With that in mind, elementary school children across the state, including the students at Dunns Corner School, read, read, listened to the audio book and then watched the brand new animation of “Is Your Hair Made of Donuts?,” a book that “literally teaches children they are what they eat.” School Nurse Maureen (Nurse Maureen) Place-Downie (wearing the hat) said “A lot of us made crazy donut hats out of paper plates and some protested and made sure they had nutritious food on theirs. We all enjoyed the book and had a great time. We are all pledging here to spread the words of; EAT HEALTHY RI !! and we are hoping to spread the message next year to the rest of the country.”
