Three sophomores from Westerly High School are the winners of the 2014 Voice of Democracy Essay Contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Amancio-Falcone-Gaccione Post 8955 and its Ladies Auxiliary. The students were recognized for their accomplishments and for being “outstanding spokespersons for freedom,” recently at a ceremony held at the VFW hall when students read their essays and received their awards. The theme for this year’s essay was “Why I’m Optimistic About Our Nation’s Future.” In photo, from left, Mr. Stephen Servidio, U.S. History teacher at WHS, Charlotte Andrus, Joseph Brodeur, Rachel Schilke and Daniel Carr, service officer of the Post and Chairman of the Committee. Brodeur and Schilke were the first place co-winners and Andrus was the second place/runner up winner. Congratulations on a job well done!
