CHARLESTOWN — The Charlestown Democratic Town Committee announced its endorsements Friday for the 2018 Democratic primary and the general election. In the Sept. 12 primary, the committee’s choices are two challengers: Matt Brown for governor, and, for lieutenant governor, state Rep. Aaron Regunberg. The committee is also backing Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, who faces a primary challenge from Patricia Fontes.

Catherine Collette, who chairs the committee, said its other endorsements for statewide office are Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, Peter Neronha for attorney general, and General Treasurer Seth Magaziner. For the 34th District  state Senate seat, the committee is supporting Jennifer Douglas.

Collette said the committee was “very proud to represent and support the values that the Democratic Party stands for: economic opportunity, affordable college education, universal health care, affordable housing, civil and women's rights, and protecting our fragile and precious environment.”

“The Charlestown Democratic Town Committee endorses these Democratic candidates and stresses that, given the chaos of the present federal administration, it is crucial that we take the time to vote, and take a stand in the upcoming election,” she said.
