WOOD RIVER JCT. — Westerly High finished first in eight individual events and a relay opening the Southern Division track season Monday with two wins and a loss.Westerly beat Prout 74-68 and Narragansett 66-43. Chariho, the host school, beat Westerly 70-5-67.5.Charlotte Andrus, Jackie Burr, Rachel Jacques and Julia Wicklund won two events each.Andrus topped the field in the 400 meters (64.4), the 100 (13.9) and took second in the 200 (28.5).Burr won the 3,000 (10:39.8) and the 1,500 (4:51.8). Jacques was first in the pole vault (7 feet event) and the 300 hurdles (57.5). She took third in the 100 hurdles (20.9).Wicklund won the long jump (15-1) and the triple jump (28.2.5). She ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay tam (3:35.4).Abby Murdock turned in a busy day with a second in the long jump (13-8) and the 400 (66.6). She was third in the 200 (28.9) and ran a leg on the 4x100 relay team.Maddy McLaughlin contributed a second in the 800 (2:33.9) and a third in the 1,500 (5:11.2). She was on the 4x100 team.Julie Senior took third in the 800 (2:40.9) and ran on the 4x100. Amy Luther added a third in the 100 (14.2).Westerly hosts East Greenwich and Coventry on Monday at 3:45 p.m. BOYS’ TRACK Bulldogs get two wins in opener WOOD RIVER JCT. — Mike Johns and Jon Jacobs won two events each helping Westerly High to a pair of wins in the Southern Divison opener Monday.Johns was first in the long jump (20-9.5) and the 200 (23.4). He was also second in the 400 (52.8). Jacobs won the discus (131 feet, 3 inches) and the shot put (40-6).Westerly beat Prout 75-51 and Narragansett 78-48. Chariho, which beat all three schools, topped the Bulldogs 95.5-48.5.Riyan Lennon contributed thirds in the long jump (19-8) and the javelin (124-5). Those finishing third were Clayton Minnich (100, 12.1), Christian Trebisacci (35-3) and Dan Carr (56.5).Westerly hosts East Greenwich and Coventry on Monday at 3:45 p.m. BOYS’ LACROSSE Burrillville/N. Smithfield 4Westerly........................... 3 HARRISVILLE — Burrillville/North Smithfield scored two goals in the fourth quarter to edge Westerly in the Division III season opener for both teams on Monday.Dallas Cottrell scored a pair of goals and Pat Johns added another as Westerly led 3-2 at the half. Timothy Dobson and Christian Dean finished with an assist each.“We played really well and when we were up 3-2 in the third, I really expected to win,” Westerly coach Bruce Brawley said. “We missed two shots on goal in the fourth quarter. We just didn’t convert.”Burrillville/North Smithfield finished with 14 shots and the Bulldogs got off eight.Brawley said Westerly goalie Isaac Kaufman had a “tremendous” game finishing with 10 saves.Westerly hosts Toll Gate Wednesday at 6 p.m.
