HARRISVILLE — The Chariho Junior Pee Wee Cowboys combined long scoring runs with strong defense to beat the Burrillville Patriots 22-8 in a Rhode Island Pre-Teen Youth Football Conference quarterfinal playoff game on Sunday.Fourth-seeded Chariho (6-3) will play top-seeded Washington County (8-0) in the semifinals on Sunday, at a site and time to be determined. The winner goes to the Super Bowl on Nov. 17. Fifth-seeded Burrillville (4-5) was eliminated. Owen Gillis recovered a Patriot fumble on the game-opening kickoff to give the Cowboys a first down on the Patriot 35. Gillis ran 33 yards to score, after key blocks by brothers Lucas and Damien Castagnaro, and then made the conversion run to give the Cowboys an 8-0 lead.Nathan Winthrop had a 19-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Konnor Perrin threw to Collin Fitts on a conversion pass for a 16-0 halftime lead. Gillis was sprung on a block by Jacob Trolio to gallop 62 yards to paydirt and a 22-point third-quarter lead. The Patriots did not make a first down until the fourth quarter when they got their only score.Collin Fitts forced and recovered a Patriot fumble in the first quarter, Winthrop intercepted a pass in the second and Corbin Brown recovered a fumble in the third. William Steiger and Stephen Pelchart were standouts on the defensive line. The Cowboys also beat the Titans twice during the regular season, 26-16 in the season-opener and 26-8 in a non-league game on Oct. 27.Chariho’s Levi King scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter as the Cowboys trailed 8-6 at the half. Joe Stanfield had a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give the Cowboys their first lead at 12-8.Chariho closed the game with a 12-play, 70-yard scoring drive. Ryane Hard ran in from 5 yards out and Paul Marshall added two points on a conversion run.The Cowboys came up big on defense with five recovered fumbles — two by Lawson Laurent and one each by Marshall, Dylan Cabral and Jack Haxton.
