SCITUATE — Westerly High’s Maddy McLaughlin finished third and teammate Sarah Garvey was fifth at the Class B girls’ championship cross country meet Saturday at Ponaganset High.McLaughlin finished with a time of 21 minutes, 3 seconds on the 3.1-mile course and Garvey ran 21:16.Both McLaughlin and Garvey earned first-team Class B honors with their finishes.Westerly finished fourth with 83 points, well behind first-place South Kingstown with 33 points.Jackie Burr, an All-New England performer for the Bulldogs last season, did not run. She has been out with an injury for most of the season.Toll Gate’s Erika Pena won with a 20:24.Carlie Sisco (13th, 22:01), Catherine Labriola (31st, 23:10) and Serenity Chen (33rd, 23:24) were the other Westerly scorers.Liz Orr (36th, 23:01), Juliette Smith (114th, 26:13), Catherine Montalto (116th, 26:17), Skyla Strickland (142nd, 27:18) and Caeles Garvey (163rd, 28:17) ran in the JV race.The JV squad finished 11th among the 14 teams with 327 points. La Salle Academy easily won the team title with a perfect score of 15. The Bulldogs return to Ponaganset High Sunday for the state championship meet at 1:15 p.m. BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRYBulldogs finish 10th SCITUATE — Sam DeSarro was the fastest Bulldog at the Class B meet at Ponaganset High Saturday.DeSarro placed 34th in 18 minutes, 58.68 seconds.Justin Senior (35th, 18:59.51), Ben Calitri (49th, 19:58.38), Isaac Kaufman (78th, 23:11.12) and Chris Schaffer (84th, 24:26.44) also scored.Westerly scored 265 points, good for 10th among the 12 teams. Barrington topped the field with 30 points. Next up for the Bulldogs is the state championship meet Sunday at 2:15 p.m. at Ponaganset High.
