STONINGTON — Riley Burnside ran for two scores and passed for another as the Stonington Pee Wees topped New Bedford 25-6 in the Ocean State Pop Warner Football League Sunday.The victory was the first by a Stonington youth football team on the new turf field at Stonington High’s Donald Palmer Field.Burnside had a 40-yard TD run in the second quarter and a 20-yarder at the end of the third quarter.On the last play of the first half, he completed a 25-yard scoring pass to Aliza Bell to give Stonington a12-6 halftime lead.Marquis Jackson scored on a 7-yard run midway through the third quarter to put the Bears up 18-6.Anthony Fry ran in a conversion to make it 25-6.Defensive end Alex Riemann, outside linebacker Evan Champagne and defensive tackle Manny DaSilva were responsible for many tackles. Elliott Dunmire also had a good game at cornerback coming up on run plays and provided solid blocking at his offensive end spot.Stonington is 1-1, while New Bedford dropped to 0-3. After Deer’s TD run, Ben Dellacono kicked the extra point to make it 14-0. Travis Pacheco scored on a 30-yard run and Dellacono’s kick made it 22-0.Anthony Moore went in on a 5-yard run in the third quarter to give Stonington a 28-0 lead.Jared Rudzinsky recovered a fumble on a kickoff to set up the second TD. Pacheco caused the fumble. The fumble recovery help set up Stonington’s second touchdown. Josh Curtain intercepted a pass. Stonington is 1-2 and New Bedford is 0-3.
